India finally won an ICC trophy
It was worth the wait. Finally, India won an ICC trophy, their first since clinching the 2013 Champions Trophy. In the 11-year gap, there have been countless heartbreaks. During this period, India lost an ICC Champions Trophy final, twice fell short in the ICC Test Championship finals, and most recently suffered a defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Though nothing can fully make up for the loss in the 2023 World Cup, the T20 World Cup victory does alleviate the pain to some extent.
With the win, India now has two ODI World Cups (1983, and 2011) and two T20 World Cups (2007 and 2024).
