Pakistan cricket is renowned to make headlines for all sorts of reasons. And it was no different ahead of PSL final between Multan Sultans and Islamabad United as videos of journalists walking out of press conference have surfaced all over the social media.
In the video, a journalist can be seen interacting with the media manager, who can be heard saying in urdu, “jisko nahi baithna hai wo na baithe, koi issue nhi hai” – (It’s Ok, those who don’t want to sit can go). After which the journalist started to walk off.
Karachi Journalist boycotted Multan sultan's press conf on manager's misbehaviour. Though the exact reason is still not known, as per various reports, the situation spiraled out of control when a journalist asked for Multan Sultans‘ captain Mohammad Rizwan for media duties, after assistant manager Abdul Rehman came in to address the media instead.
Poor Scheduling And Lack Of Crowd In PSL
The 2024 edition of Pakistan Super League has been in headlines for different reasons. While the quality of cricket can’t be questioned, some off-field news and lack of crowd has marred the latest PSL event.
Fans questioned PCB why the PSL Final is being held on Monday, the first working day of the week. Indeed, it’s an odd day to host the Pakistan Cricket’s marquee event and on a ground, and in a city, which has been criticized for the lack of support for PSL.
In fact, the support for PSL has been sub-par in Karachi, with lack of crowd in all the games at National Stadium Karachi. But the news became a national headline in Pakistan when the second eliminator between Islamabad and Peshawar Zalmi was played out in front of empty stands.
Even former Pakistan captain and fast bowling legend Wasim Akram had to admit that it was embarrassing to see the empty seats. “It was embarrassing to see no crowd in Karachi. There was no crowd, literally no crowd for last night’s match.”
