Williamson Suffered A Horrible Injury
During GT’s 1st Game In IPL 2023
GT secured Williamson’s services during the IPL 2023 auction for INR 2 crores. Notably, the 2022 IPL champions were the sole team to exhibit interest in acquiring Williamson’s services. Unfortunately, the 33-year-old endured a severe injury while fielding during GT’s debut IPL 2023 match and was unable to take to the field throughout the season.
Kane Williamson’s Record In IPL
Kane Williamson’s IPL journey started in 2015 when he was signed by Sunisers Hyderabad (SRH). During his inaugural season, he played only two games and scored 31 runs. The following season, he looked more like part of the team as he was involved in six games, in which he accumulated 124 runs with 50 being his high score.
He was subsequently retained for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. In 2018, Williamson took over the captaincy from David Warner. Under his leadership, SRH finished as runners-up, with Williamson emerging as the season’s leading scorer with 735 runs.
During IPL 2021, he took over the captaincy from Warner. SRH again retained Williamson ahead of the 2022 IPL season, but this time, the New Zealander failed miserably with the bat, scoring only 216 runs in 13 games, scoring only one half-century.
As mentioned above, GT signed Williamson ahead of the 2023 IPL edition, but unfortunately, he suffered an injury during the team’s first match of the season.
