CSK vs RCB Match Report: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets in the opening match of 2024 Indian Premier League season. RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first on a wicket that has some juice for the fast bowlers. The visitors posted 173 runs which the hosts chased down in 18.4 overs, while losing only four wickets.
Mustafizur Rahman’s Crucial Two-Wicket Over
Except the couple of balls at the start of the innings, RCB captain Du Plessis looked like a man possessed, as he was middling every ball, hitting with such precise and fluidity, it seemed someone was controlling him through a PS5 console. He blasted his way to 35 runs in just 22 balls that had 8 beautifully crafted boundaries.
But the South African was hitting one too many balls and was eventually caught out by the running Rachin Ravindra at deep back point. That was Mustafizur Rahman’s 1st wicket in the fourth over, which he followed with another wicket of Rajat Patidar in the last ball of the same over. Rahman eventually ended with a figure of 4/29 and was given the man-of-the-match award.
In-form Australian Glenn Maxwell was sent on the 1st ball he faced, as he tried to glance the ball to the third-man, but could only nick the ball into the resting gloves of MS Dhoni.
Rawat and Karthik Brought RCB Back Into the Game
At 78-5 in 11.4 overs, RCB looked out of game so early in the match. But the duo of Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik added 95 runs in just 50 balls and brought RCB back into the game.
With the scoreboard reading 173/6 at half-time, the game was in balance. For the pitch had enough in it to support both the fast bowlers and spinners.
CSK Showed Their Batting Class
Right from the off, CSK were always in control while chasing the target. All the batsmen touched double digits, but Rachin Ravindra impressed the most. The young New Zealander imploded for 37 runs in just 15 balls, with 30 of those runs coming in only six balls (6s:3, 4s:3). Newly appointed captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (15 off 15), Ajinkya Rahane (27 off 19), and Darry Mitchell (22 off 18) all made crucial runs.
