Women’s T20 World Cup: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shown confidence in Harmanpreet Kaur by naming her as the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Women’s T20 World Cup will commence on October 3 with the opening match between Bangladesh Women and Scotland Women in Sharjah. India will kick off their campaign against New Zealand on October 4, followed by a high-stakes clash against arch-rival Pakistan on October 6 in Dubai.
Harmanpreet Kaur is confident about India’s chances in Women’s T20 World Cup
The Women’s T20 World Cup was originally scheduled to take place in Bangladesh, but the International Cricket Council (ICC) moved the competition to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the ongoing political instability in the country.
Harmanpreet also sounded confident about India’s chances and highlighted that the conditions in the UAE are not entirely different from those in India.
“We have not played much cricket in the UAE. But the conditions in the UAE are going to be similar to Indian conditions.”
“We will see how the conditions play out (there) and try to adjust ourselves to the conditions as soon as possible,” Harmanpreet said.
India were the outright favourite in the recently concluded Women’s T20 Asia Cup. They won every match en route to the final but suffered defeat in the penultimate game against the hosts Sri Lanka Women’s team. Still, Harmanpreet sounded confident that despite recent setbacks, her team can achieve success in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
“Whenever we play on this kind of stage (World Cup), we always want to do well. We have always done well in the past as well, and hopefully, this time we will break that final barrier and go all the way,” Harmanpreet told PTI.
“As a team, we learn from our defeats and break those barrier that are pushing us back. Hopefully this time we can express ourselves in a more positive way in the World Cup, She added.
