IND vs NZ 2nd Test: Rohit Sharma set an unwanted record as captain after India suffered a historic series defeat against New Zealand. Although the second Test match is complete, Indian cricket fans still find it hard to believe that their team has lost a home series. Unfortunately, it happened, as India was bowled out for 245 runs in the fourth innings while chasing a mammoth target of 359 runs, falling short by 113 runs in the end.

Rohit Sharma Set An Unwanted Record
1. It was a double whammy for Rohit Sharma following India’s significant 113-run defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the second Test match in Pune. The T20 World Cup-winning captain became the only captain in the history of Indian cricket to lose a Test series at home against New Zealand. To give you a sense of the magnitude of this news, India played its first Test in 1932, and New Zealand toured India 12 times before the current series. That’s a record Rohit Sharma will have to contend with for eternity.
2. Not only that, it was India’s first home series defeat since 2012/13 when England won 2-1 in a four-match Test series.
3. There are more records that were shattered. The defeat in Pune means India lost the first two Tests of a series at home for the first time since 1999/00, when Hansie Cronje’s team won the first two Tests.
4. Additionally, it was the first time since 1983 that India lost three Test matches at home in a calendar year. Before losing two Tests against New Zealand, India also suffered a defeat in Hyderabad against England earlier this year.

Mitchell Santner’s Match Winning Figures
The standout player in New Zealand‘s 113-run win in the second Test match was Mitchell Santner. He was the chief architect of India’s batting collapse in both innings. What made him dangerous was his speed, which was slower than that of all the other spinners in this match. Being a tall bowler also gave him an advantage, as he generated extra bounce off the deck. The 32-year-old ended the match with figures of 13/157 and is now third on the list of the best match figures for New Zealand in a Test match.
