IND vs BAN Test: India’s overall display in the 280-run win against Bangladesh in the first Test match was not perfect. The main concern was their batting, particularly due to the failures of key players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who both fell short of expectations. Despite this, the gulf in quality between the two teams was evident, largely thanks to India’s impeccable bowling performance. From superstar Jasprit Bumrah to newcomer Akash Deep, every bowler played a crucial role in India’s victory over their neighbors, Bangladesh.
Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal Move Up the Rankings
Rishabh Pant showed why he is one of the best batsmen in the test format. Playing after a gap of almost two years, the 26-year-old scored 39 in the first innings, and 109 runs in the 2nd innings to cap off a remarkable return to the test format. That performance helped Pant rose all the way up to sixth place with 731 rating points.
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a half century in the first innings and 10 in the second innings. The young Indian batter was placed sixth before the first IND vs BAN Test match but moved up to sixth with 751 points ratings in the latest ICC Test rankings.
Shubman Gill, who scored an unbeaten 119 runs in the 2nd innings, gained five spots and moved up to 14th.
Virat Kohli Drops Out of Top 10
Virat Kohli had a rather average outing against Bangladesh. The 35-year-old scored a combined 23 runs in two innings (6, 17) and dropped out of top-10 in ICC’s latest test rankings. The former Indian captain now sits at 12th spot.
India’s Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma, who scored 6 and 5 in the first test, also saw his ranking take a hit. The 37-year-old fell from no-5 to no-10 following a poor show against Bangladesh.
