PAK vs BAN 1st Test: Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has expressed strong support for veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who played a crucial role in his team’s maiden Test win over Pakistan despite being embroiled in a significant murder controversy back home. The former Kolkata Knight Riders star was instrumental in Pakistan’s dramatic collapse in the second innings, taking three wickets and setting the stage for Bangladesh’s historic victory.

With both Pakistan and Bangladesh amassing runs in the first innings, the match seemed destined for a draw. However, Shakib opened the door for Bangladesh by claiming the vital wicket of Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique. From 104/4, Pakistan crumbled to a mere 146 all out, with Shakib (3-44) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (4-21) accounting for seven wickets together.
After the match, Bangladesh captain Shanto praised the veteran all-rounder for his outstanding performance and his ability to stay focused despite the ongoing controversy.
“He is someone who is dedicated. He does whatever is needed for the team to win. He knows very well how to focus on cricket by keeping his personal life aside. He knows how to help the team and juniors. Despite being in such a situation, he deserves credit for performing the way he did and giving his inputs, especially in bowling. We expect him to perform even better in the next game,” Shanto said after the match.
Bangladesh is currently navigating a tumultuous period. Thousands of people have taken to the streets to express their frustrations, leading to widespread riots and even the fall of the government. However, Shanto emphasized that this significant Test win over Pakistan could bring some much-needed smiles to the faces of people back home.
“Last one month has been tough. Problems are still there, but in Bangladesh, we all support each other. I hope this win will bring them a smile on their faces. That’s why we are very happy and we will look to continue like this even in the next game,” Shanto added.
