The Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah, revealed that they are going to invite applications for the position of head coach of the Indian Cricket Team, as Rahul Dravid‘s tenure is coming to an end in June this year. Shah did highlight that Dravid has the option to reapply for the role he has held since November 2021.
Shah didn’t rule out the possibility of a foreign coach
During a media interaction at BCCI headquarters, Shah said it’s up to Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to decide whether next Team India coach should be Indian or foreign.
“Rahul’s tenure is only up to June. So if he wants to apply, he is free to do so. We cannot determine whether the new coach will be Indian or foreign. It will be up to the CAC (Cricket Advisory Committee), and we are a global body,” Jay Shah was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
“We are looking for a long-term coach, for three years.”
Dravid Might not continue as Indian Cricket Team head-coach
Dravid became the head coach of Team India in November 2021 on an initial two-year contract but later received a one-year extension after a terrific run at the 2023 ODI World Cup, during which India enjoyed a 10-game unbeaten streak before losing the all-important final against Australia.
Although Shah did highlight that Dravid can re-apply for the position if he wishes, there are suggestions that the former Indian batsman, known as “The Wall,” might not be keen, as his son Samit, 18, is coming through the ranks in the Karnataka age-group teams.
