Ravichandran Ashwin is not only an Indian legend but an all-time cricket great. There are not many players who can match Ashwin’s profile, and that’s a significant statement considering how long Test cricket has been played and the many greats who have graced the game. Ashwin is unique in many aspects, but what makes him even more special is that he approaches the game as if he is still a student. Despite being 38, his batting is improving, and at times he looks like as if he is a batsman first and bowling is his second attribute.

Ravichandran Ashwin Overtakes Courtney Walsh
At 144/6, India was in deep trouble in the first innings when Ashwin walked in to bat. But the former Chennai Super Kings star handled the pressure like a fish takes to water. He formed a magnificent 199-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, scoring 113 crucial runs as India posted a challenging total of 376 in the first innings.
The 38-year-old, however, went wicketless in Bangladesh’s first innings, but the veteran all-rounder proved his mettle as a high-caliber player by taking six wickets in the fourth innings. With that wicket haul, he rose to 8th on the all-time wickets list in Tests, overtaking West Indies great Courtney Walsh.
For his incredible all-round display, Ashwin was also awarded the well-deserved Man of the Match award.
In the top-10 list of most wickets, Ashwin and Nathan Lyon are the only two active players.

Ashwin’s next assignment will be the 2nd test match against Bangladesh, starting September 27. India will then play three T20I matches against the same opponent and Ashwin, most probably, won’t be part of the 20-over squad, but he will be required when India hosts New Zealand for a three-match Test series, starting October 16.
