Superstar Indian batter Virat Kohli has revealed that he got a message from football legend Sunil Chhetri before announcing his retirement from International football. An emotional Chhetri took to his social media handle on Thursday and revealed that he would be playing his last game for India in the upcoming international fixture against Kuwait on June 6.

During an interview on RCB Insider Show, RCB star Kohli revealed that Chhetri messaged him before making the announcement of retiring from International football public.

“He actually messaged me as well, informing me that he was going to do it,” Kohli said on RCB Insider Show.
Kohli also highlighted Chhetri’s modest character and that he was really at peace with the big decision.
“But I would say that he felt like he is at peace with the decision. I have become really close with him over the years and wish him nothing but the best. He is a lovely lovely guy,” Kohli was quoted as saying on the RCB Insider Show.

In a career spanning over 19 years, Chhetri has scored 94 goals in 150 matches for India. He scored on is debut game on 12 June 2005 against Pakistan. Chhetri has also stint with clubs such as Kansas City Wizards in Major League Soccer (MLS) and Sporting Lisbon of Portugal. For his services and achievements in sports field, Chhetri was awarded with Arjuna Award in 2011 and the Padma Shri award in 2019, India’s fourth highest civilian award.
