For cricket fans worldwide, the moment when Virat Kohli retires will be as dreadful and heart-wrenching as when Lionel Messi hangs up his boots for football fans. But this is the bittersweet reality of sports and life. Even for legendary athletes like LeBron James, Usain Bolt, and Roger Federer, there comes a day when they play their final professional game.
In an interview conducted during RCB’s Royal Gala Dinner before the season-defining match against the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings, Virat Kohli shared insights into various topics, including his retirement plans.
Virat Kohli reveals his retirement plans
On 15 August 2020, MS Dhoni officially announced his retirement from international cricket. Since then, the legendary Indian wicket-keeper has kept himself completely away from the limelight. He hardly posts on his social media handles. His last tweet dates back to Jan 8, 2021, and it’s evident that Dhoni prefers to maintain a low profile and stay out of the public eye.
“Once I am done, I will be gone, you won’t see me for a while. So I want to give it everything I have till the time time I play, and that’s the only thing that keeps me going,” Kohli said during RCB’s Gala Dinner.

Kohli was also asked the one question that every cricket fan wants to ask him and that is, “what keeps him going, what’s his secret of success”
“It’s quite simple. I think as a sportsman, we do have an end-date to our careers. So I am just working backwards. I don’t want to finish my career thinking, ‘oh, what if I have done this on that particular day’ because I can’t keep going on and on forever. So it’s just about not leaving any undone business behind and not have any regrets later, which I am sure I won’t,” Kohli added.
Virat Kohli and RCB will be in action MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings on Saturday May 18. This game is a knockout game in the sense that the winner is likely to finish fourth on the table.
