IND vs NZ 2nd Test: At times, it feels like Rishabh Pant is a stand-up comedian stationed behind the stumps. There’s never a dull moment when Pant is keeping wickets. Even during Test matches, where players spend long hours on the field, Pant remains full of energy behind the stumps. What sets him apart is his spontaneous reactions to different situations. Sometimes, it’s the way he tries to influence the captain for a DRS review, and other times, it’s his conversations with the bowler, suggesting where to bowl and how to get a batsman out.
Rishabh Pant’s Hilarious Moment in IND vs NZ 2nd Test
Once again, Rishabh Pant was ultra-active behind the stumps during Day 1 of the IND vs NZ 2nd Test match, constantly talking and making it an entertaining watch for everyone. However, one particular instance took social media by storm.
The moment occurred when India was trying to bowl New Zealand out. Tim Southee, who had scored a vital half-century in the first Test, departed early this time, bowled by Washington Sundar. Ajaz Patel then came out to partner Mitchell Santner, and Pant immediately began strategizing to get Patel out quickly.
As picked up by the stump mic, Pant was heard saying to Washington Sundar, “You can try to bowl a full-length delivery, maybe a little fuller. You can aim for the off-side as well.” (waise aage daal sakte hai, you can bowl little fuller.)
However, Patel read the delivery well and hit a boundary towards long-off. Pant, in his usual humorous fashion, was then heard saying that he didn’t know Patel understood Hindi (yaar mere ko kya pata issey hindi aati hai). For those unaware, Ajaz Patel was born in Mumbai, but his family emigrated to New Zealand when he was just 8 years old.

IND vs NZ 2nd Test – Day One goes to both teams
New Zealand captain Tom Latham’s decision to bat first seemed to work in favor of the visitors as they reached 138/2 in 43 overs. Although Conway departed after scoring 76, a 59-run partnership for the fourth wicket strengthened their position. However, the game turned on its head when Washington Sundar clean-bowled Rachin Ravindra (65 off 105) on the first ball of the 60th over. From 197/3, the Kiwis collapsed to 259 all out, losing their last seven wickets for just 59 runs. India could have ended the day on a perfect note, but Rohit Sharma’s wicket shifted the momentum slightly.
Scorecard Snippet:
- New Zealand Batting: 259/10 | Conway (76), Rachin (65), Santner (33)
- India Bowling: Washington Sundar 7/59, Ashwin: 3/64
- India Batting: 16/1
- New Zealand Bowling: Southee: 1/4
