Before the start of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, there's a small matter of home series against England, which consists of 5-match T20Is, and three ODI matches. The T20I series will kick-off first, with the opening game on January 22 at Eden Gardens, followed by the three-match ODI series.
Though the stakes on the T20I series is high, the ODI series will attract more traction due to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 which is an ODI event. But the T20I series as players such as Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Shami, to name a few, are expected to be part of India's squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
IND vs ENG T20I Series: India's Squad
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja are not part of the T20I set up now as the trio decided to retire following India's win in the 2024 T20I World Cup, but few big names are still missing. Rishabh Pant is amongst those players who failed to make the cut as the selectors decided to go with Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel for the wicket-keeping position.
Suryakumar Yadav continues to lead India's T20I team, while Axar Patel will serve as his deputy. Jasprit Bumrah is also missing but his absence is down to the injury he sustained in the fifth test of Border-Gavaskar series. Here's the full squad India named for the T20I series against England.
Suryakumar Yadav (C), Sanju Samson (wk), Dhruv Jurel (wk), Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel (vc), Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Shami, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma.
India's Predicted Playing XI in the first T20I
India's last T20I match was against South Africa on November 15, 2024. India scored a mammoth 283/1 in that match, with Sanju Samson (109 off 56) and Tilak Varma (120 off 47) scoring unbeaten centuries. If we look at the playing 11 of Team India in that match, we can get some idea of what might be India's playing XI in the first T20I match against England.
Ramandeep Singh played in that match, but he is not part of T20I series against England. Expect Nitish Kumar Reddy to take his place in India's playing 11. The rest of the team is likely to remain same.
India's expected Playing 11: Sanju Samson (WK), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy.
